May Day is a public holiday celebrated on the first Monday of May and is an ancient festival of Spring, with dances, singing, and cakes part of the festivities.  However, did you also know in 1889 it was chosen as the date for International Workers’ Day.

Also known as Labour Day in most countries, relating to the support of working-class demands for the eight-hour day after there was a general strike for the eight-hour workday on 1st May 1856. 

May countries around the world also celebrate 1st May with parades, songs, dancing, decorations, barbecue breakfast, food and drink including;
